Date 2 - The Pancake Man!

Wednesday, March 17, 2010

After numerous emails back and forth, with questions and quizzes galore, I knew Daniel would be a safe date. He was friendly, and suggested going to see some live music local to me. It sounded like a win win situation so I agreed!

When Daniel first phoned, he was chatty and so friendly, I was reassured that I would have a fun time even if sparks didn't fly. He seemed to have a good sense of humour and he was confident, which if you have ever been on a painfully quiet date, was a huge bonus!

Date night text....

'Where has the day gone! I'm just running a bath and willing the water to come out faster lol. I will call you when I get to the station. I would meet you inside the bar, but if I approach the wrong guy, and even worse, opt to sit down, then you will be gutted ha ha!'

My friend was horrified that I sent this.... NO WAY YOU DIDNT!

Uh Huh, what! Its just a bit of fun, he can handle it!

The reply.....

'Gutted?? That would be hilarious!! lol I will meet you at the station at 7.45. I have a bit of the sniffles, but its nothing an alcoholic beverage wont fix! X'

So now a bit of banter was out the way, meeting Daniel would be easy! Daniel described himself as someone who loved pancakes! He made that point very clear on his profile, along with being an athletic black 5”11 guy, who works in finance. He was a Gemini like myself, and although I don't truly believe in all that, this kinda gave me an inkling we would get on well!

I popped to the cash machine across the road, and as I turned back I saw him. He looked around, got out his phone and put it to his ear. I had my phone in my hand, so I smiled ready for it to ring, and kinda sneaked up on him. It didn't ring lol. He was on the phone to a friend, and didn't immediately hang up when he spotted me. We did the friendly peck on the cheek and headed towards the bar whilst he desperately tried to end his call to his friend. I didn't mind though, it gave me a chance to listen to him talking!

The bar was really cool, an old style pub with an amphitheatre part for live entertainment. Daniel asked what I would like to drink, and I naturally opted for a glass of white wine, to add to what must still be floating around my system from recent days, and he opted to get the bottle to share. As we sat down, I asked, so your a wine drinker? To which he said no, not really lol. I then realised Daniel was a gentleman, and I enjoyed watching him pretend to enjoy a crisp glass of Chardonnay.

We chatted so much and laughed and joked it was frustrating when the acts started. The venue was freezing cold, but we sat silently taking in the talent and often nodding in approval. Daniel was one of those guys that answers questions the host puts to the audience. I guess I would describe him as fairly loud, also when he talks, but it was nice. He was the most genuine person I have come across in a long time. And this date was already worlds apart from the last!

As the music came to an end, we moved into the bar next door, and continued to get to know each other. I still wasn't sure how much I fancied Daniel, he was one of those guys that wears a moody look really well, but when his face burst into laughter he kinda looked like a wrinkled pea HAHA. I know this sounds terrible, but I mean it in the kindest way possible. After all Daniel was growing on me! If in future I would be introducing my boyfriend as a wrinkled pea, then so be it! LOL

We talked about past dates which is supposedly number one of a list of topics men disliked talking about on a date. But he brought it up, so I thought why not! Our conversations were always equal and balanced, and Daniel became more flirty, grabbing my hands across the table and showing he held some affection. I did hesitate for one reason only. I had an epiphonyon this date! Daniel asked why women always go for the bad guys and all of a sudden I knew! (because I do it too, shock horror - self sabotage!)

If you go on a date with a bit of a prick, or a lot of a prick which was my usual luck, you feel tempted to see them again as they are not only charming, but you don't care if and when you have to dump them. It's playing it safe. If you meet a nice guy, but your not sure if you fancy them, its easy to run a mile because you feel this person doesn't deserve to be hurt. So potentially you could run away from the right guy, through fear. And anyone is lying if they say getting into a relationship isn't scary! I want one so badly, yet I'm terrified!

He seemed happy with my explanation, and also content that he was in the 'good guy' bracket, but we got on so well, I would obviously meet him again!

He walked me to the bus stop and we had to wait 10 minutes for the bus. It was bitterly cold and Daniel pulled me in for a hug to keep me warm. I knew he wanted to kiss me but I didn't make it easy, I still felt so unsure! As the bus appeared in the distance I let him go in for the kill, and it was nice! Gentle, passionate, keen... as I pulled away he grabbed my hands and said, get the next bus. I giggled, as you do! And said no, he would miss his last tube and be stranded in suburbia! I couldn't possibly let that happen. I jumped on the bus and waved goodbye, certain I would see him again.

Post date text......
